Poly vs. Aluminum: Which Is Right for You?

Both will last decades outdoors. The choice comes down to climate, weight, and the look you want for your space.

Ask two designers and you will get two answers. The honest one is that poly and aluminum solve the same problem in different ways, and the right choice depends less on quality than on context.

Poly: low maintenance, rich color

Solid HDPE poly lumber will not rot, splinter, crack or fade, and it never needs painting or sealing. Color runs all the way through, so a scratch never shows a different shade underneath.

It is heavier, which is an advantage in wind and a consideration on a rooftop or balcony. Soap and water is all it ever needs.

Aluminum: precision and lightness

Cast aluminum will not rust, holds a slim profile, and weighs a fraction of steel. A triple-stage powder coat keeps the finish stable in direct sun.

It is the better answer for pieces you want to move often, for balconies with load limits, and for anyone who prefers a finish that does not change.

How we specify both

Many Brookhaven spaces use both: poly for relaxed Adirondack and fire-side seating, and cushioned cast aluminum for dining and deep seating.

Your dealer can show the two finishes side by side, which is by far the fastest way to decide.
